Irlen® Spectral Filters

HOW
LONG SHOULD I USE OVERLAYS BEFORE GETTING LENSES?
- Why
wait? Overlays are useful for reading, but spectral filtered lenses are
even better. In addition, the Irlen® Spectral Lens Filters can be used
for writing, copying, driving, sports, comfort under fluorescent
lighting and in outdoor light, and for correction of depth perception.
- SHOULD
I GET LENSES TINTED TO MATCH MY OVERLAYS?
- NO!
NO! NO!
This could cause additional problems of strain and fatigue,
or at best, be useless. The color of your Irlen® Spectral Filters will
be very different from your overlay color. Remember, some colors
make the problem worse, others make no difference, and only
the right color can make things better.
- HOW
ARE Irlen® SPECTRAL FILTERS DIFFERENT FROM OVERLAYS?
- Overlays
and Irlen® Spectral Filter Lenses use different methods to solve the same
problem. The overlays change the color of the page in order
to minimize or eliminate distortions. Filter lenses are a more
exact science. With your Irlen® Spectral Filters, the page and the rest
of the world do NOT change color. White stays white and colors
remain the same. Your Irlen® Spectral Filter Lenses alter and coordinate
the timing and sequence of visual images processed in the brain,
reducing or eliminating the perceptual problems of distortion,
strain, and fatigue.
- DO
I NEED A VISION TEST BEFORE GETTING MY Irlen® SPECTRAL FILTERS
-
Yes, if you have not had one for 18 months (1 year for children).
Vision should be assessed by a competent eye specialist (optometrist
or ophthalmologist) and corrected if needed. Vision and perception
work together. Choose a vision specialist who supports the Irlen®
Method and will help you get ready for your assessment. Some
clients report that their vision exam is more accurate when
they take their overlays to use during the exam activities.
- IF
I WEAR PRESCRIPTED GLASSES, CAN I GET THEM TINTED?
- Only
if the lenses are high quality optical plastic (CR-39) and do
NOT have scratched coating, cosmetic tint, anti-reflective coating,
or UV on them. Scratched lenses do not tint properly. If you
wear prescriptive lenses, bring a copy of your prescription
to your evaluation session so that the Irlen® optical lab can
create lenses with your vision correction and your Irlen® spectral filters together. Contact lenses are now available with Irlen® spectral filters.
